Welcome to The Company Town

Why we created the company town.

We would like to think of The Company Town as a brainchild, or the ultimate widget, but suffer from no illusions as we find ourselves publishing a site for a saturated market out of necessity and pure stubbornness. In reality we awoke to an excess of books and household items after our father passed away. We could not bring ourselves to have an estate sale at that time , (if you could actually call it an estate, we envision something much grander), as it would be selling part of our heritage to strangers. It's been a couple of years since the taxes were dispensed with and we have finally reconciled what should go and what should stay. Admittedly, it is a modest start but one that may grow into a small business with your support.

We have undertaken this endeavor because we like publishing web sites; honestly its fun. But there are other pressing reasons too.

  • First, we needed a way to help alleviate the average modern family debt. Buying a book or unique item in The General Store would be of great help.
  • The second reason is to maintain items on the web in an inexpensive environment. We do use Ebay and Amazon to sell on a semi-regular basis if we feel there is a demand, but this can be a very time consuming and in some cases expensive. When available for auction, we will list the item's link at this site.
  • Lastly, books take up space. We need more space. Of course in the future if we decide to change communities there is the moving... and that would be no small task. There are also items of interest around the house that have proliferated over the last decade that may justify the addition of new sales areas.

The future of The Company Town

In addition to books we hope to launch some new areas in The General Store. Decor and Housewares will provide access to some very unique items. Internet Safety will be a general resource for protecting yourself and your computer. The Town Journal will be an interactive area for discussion and editorials. Being the resident artists and designers of The Company Town, there is also the possibility of an Arts section. If our community of friends express interest in selling their own work online, then we will take the time to build the needed infrastructure for such an area.
